I grabbed my camera the other day to take pictures of the uniqueness that is on this road. It happened to be a cloudy day but that didn't stop me. This road is in the revitalization period of it's life so some of the iconic businesses here are closed for good, but their intriguing signs and buildings still remain.
We've going to start this visual drive with one of my favorite sushi places. My daughter and I go here regularly. The have a bridge that you walk over to go inside and in the pond are small, medium and large Koi fish. So if you're looking for a traditional Japanese and Korean restaurant, Ichiban is your place to go. They also have tatami-style seating.
I took a turn on a back road to swing around to get a picture of a sign I missed and found this. I just had to (sort of) pull over and take a few quick snaps of the VW and the little house behind it. I know the truck behind me wasn't happy with my halfarse pull over, but I just couldn't pass this up. The VW and mini house look like they were meant to be together. Don't you agree?
Another back street find. I just loved the colors on this house. There are even matching outside chairs off to the left. Can you spot them behind the bushes?
This is the photo that put me on the photo adventure of Burnet. I love this big head with the light bulb. The business is closed and for sale/lease right now. I would love to be able to invest and open it as a coffee bar or restaurant and leave that iconic head alone.
Are you up for a sweet treat? Stop by Hey Cupcake! or one of the other sweet treat places on Burnet including Austin Cake Balls and Chocolaterie Tessa.
A building with a rotating Texas and southwestern theme. It's so Texas!
Austin has a murals everywhere and embraces them all. I have done a mural hunt before and will do another in the future to post.
Head to Lucy's for fried chicken.
They have their own taco saying which describes them better than I could...Torchy's Tacos - Damn Good Tacos.
If you're an organic eater, or just want a good cup of joe, head to Pacha Organic Cafe.
Another back street find...
This gem of a sign was out front of a building that is closed and for sale. I'm not for sure what it was to begin with but I love this 3D sign so I snapped away.
I love the name of this place, Monkey Nest, as well as the way it's decorated on the outside. As I drove through the parking lot and out the back alley way, I found the murals. What a great pictorial find and also a great place for coffee and a bite to eat!
I just like the design on the side of this building.
Little Woodrow's is an iconic Austin place to go to for a drink and good food. They have multiple locations and events going on all the time so check out their calendar.
The Peached Tortilla merges Asian cuisine with Southern comfort and cocktails. What a unique blend that is oh, so good.
Phil's Ice House is connected to Amy's Ice Cream so you get to chow down on a delicious burger and then head next door for dessert. Don't forget that cold brewski with that burger. This restaurant use to be a garage.
When we first moved here, this was the first restaurant that friends took us too because it's just that awesome to eat at.
More pics of places that are no more but so worth the post and to check out if you're on a visual tour.
Austin's Furniture Depot sells all sorts of stuff including neon signs. Austin is known for it's bats and that's a batty story to be told in the future. This furniture store pays homage to our bats on the front of their building. They also have weird but wonderful yard art. I don't know if it's for sale but it's great to look at. By the way, don't let the fun outside fool you, the furniture inside is beautiful.
If you want a top notch burger, than look no further then Top Notch Burgers. This restaurant has been around for awhile and is an Austin favorite. They also have fried chicken and dinners at affordable prices.
Guess what you get repaired here? Yup, shoes and boots. This is a GIANT inflatable boot that stands outside the business.
You have to enlarge this image and read the sign over the garage port entrance. There is a taco truck hiding in there. I haven't tried it out yet but plan to in the near future.
Do you want to see a sloth along with other exotic pets? Zoo Keeper Exotic Pets is that answer then. I stopped in there awhile back to see what type of pets they have and found out that a sloth lives in the front window area. Now that's an interesting find at a pet store. Sorry, but their webpage was down so I don't have a link now. I'll keep checking and if it starts working in the future I'll add it.
This wraps up by Burnet optical adventure. I'm already working on my next adventure.
By for now,
Jearise
